Game crashes frequently

I have owned the game for just a few hours and it has frozen and crashed 3 times already. I run OS X Yosemite on a Macbook Pro from 2011.

Overall good but one major worker bug

Great game and very addicting…Problem with the workers though. If they are put on auto they will stop working altogether sometimes regardless if you have unimproved tiles. So, later in the game you have to manualy tell them what to do every single turn and this is quite the hassel and takes away from the game. Also, they will sometimes stop working on a project and just leave it without completing it. If they would fix the worker issue this would be a flawless game.

5.09GB equals miner bug fixes??

Don’t get me wrong I love the game but how can a 5.09GB patch be miner bug fixes?

Full of game crippling bugs !!!!!

THE “BUG FIXES” UPDATE DID NOTHING, SEEMS TO EVEN MADE ALL THESE LISTED PROBLEMS WORSE !!!!!!! most every single bug in this game relates to workers. after a certain point in the game. they just stop making upgrades completely and sit around the map at random points. STUCK until you return them to manual mode. they also travel the most danerous locations around the map over and over. constantly getting caught by barbarians. once returned to manual mode they need orders to do the same jobs over and over each turn until the one job is complete. they also seem to build an excessive ammount of trading posts leaving me people hungry in allot of cases or city growth stagnated. managing workers in a large empire quickly becomes overwelming and normally call it quits before finishing a game in frustration. without these bugs it would be a super fun and great day killer when its raining outside. hard to put down forget to eat kind of game. until the workers stop. well. working. one final complaint is the game has an auto attention that can really be very very annoying. if you are doing something with a unit it will just start switching you around the map on its own to what it thinks you should be doing. instead of allowing the tasks bubble to be clicked and get to each one in your own time. I HATE THIS AND WISH I COULD TURN IN OFF !!

Multiplayer

I love the game, but was really disappointed when I found out that this version does not support the online, internet multiplayer that Steam offers.

Takes too much resource from my MBA

A Classic games serices, tried at PC “BAD” once the game move on to later stage. Tried on my MBA “S…..l….o…w” alreafy from the beginning

Hours of fun… (wasted time?) XD

Epic game! I literally think its the coolest game on the appstore. You could spend HOURS on here… Which, I guess, is kind of unhealthy, but… I don’t have an excuse :(… ANYWAY It’s really really cool. I reccomend you buy it, because the 20 bucks are worth it. If you like strategy games, action games, or any game that stimulates your mind, this one is for you.

Great Game, but still crashes after everyone has about 5-10 cities. (you need to reboot to fix)

EDIT: I would really like this built for xbox one. The game seems to have an extremely inefficient way of computing, it always crashes during processing other teams turns. I’ve had this game since the year it came out and its been crashing since the beginning, its appalling that they still havent fixed these problems or found alternative solutions to the problem.. Maybe if they used internet processing to help offload some of the heavy lifting this game needs they could do it, but its still a broken game. The good reviews here maybe true, but they probably are reviewing the game before meeting a lot of the problems this game has, or they have the latest and greatest hardware. They game play is unlike any civ game youve played before. Be ready for change. If youre new to Civ it is a great game to learn, my brother learned Civ 5 without a problem with no previous experience in strategy games believe it or not. He plays on a new iMac, so it works fine for him. The game has a lot more depth than any of the previous games, but its also easier to understand. The game isn’t bad, except for crashes. It is different though, so if you can’t deal with change in the gameplay from previous generations, don’t buy it until you can open your mind to new concepts. Bottom line: If you have a very new system with lots of power, this game is maybe worth a try. Maybe see if you can find source online to compare your computer with this game to make sure it works, cause the minimum reqs will still freeze on you. If you don’t have the latest and greatest computer and know it sometimes struggles with other games, don’t even bother with this one. It’ll be a waste of your money, cause youll play it once, and once it fails you won’t really want to pick it up again until you have a computer to actually play it which (could be) years before you will actually be able to play this game all the way through. Another solution is to just set it to autosave every turn. The game plays off a seed every turn so all the results (if you do the same thing) will come to the same thing even if the game crashed. The seed is in the last save you have so you can pick up on the turn you left off at the crash, maybe play a few more turns before it crashes again. It is A LOT OF WORK and probably not going to keep up with it for much longer. I wish they’d atleast make it crash to the desktop so I wouldnt have to force reboot everytime it happens. Can’t be good for my computer. Cheers.

Game ruining bugs

I will echo what a few people have said already: this version of the game (not sure if it has to do with Aspyr Media or what) has game ruining bugs associated with the workers. At a certain point (seems to be 100-200 turns into the game), the workers simply stop working automatically. You have to manually assign them tasks, and they stop working every turn. It makes the game impossible to play and very unenjoyable. I like the game itself, but this is simply terrible, and I would not advise its purchase.

NICE GAME TO HAVE

I spent around 13 USD for a complete steam version. Totally worth it!

Good game

Playable (on smaller map sizes) using a Mac that barely meets the minimum requirements. Excellent replay value but I would advise waiting for a Steam sale and buying the entire game + all DLC for $12 rather than buying it on the App Store for $30 and spending $70+ on DLC. The one thing that irks me is the constant onslaught of bugs relating to workers.

Game crashes after new update

Ever since the recent update for the game, the game will crash and burn after 30 minutes or so of playing. I have had this occur several times in a row after restarting the app, then additionally restarting the computer. Prior to this update I had zero problems and had played this game for over a year.

Great game

I got this with the free code from macrumors.com and let me say that this works amazingly well on my imac. I normally play in windowed mode so i can have some thing like HBO go on my other display, and even with video playing on my other display this game runs perfectly. I dont have any problems and i have enjoyed countless hours playing this game. Id recomend it to every one.

Completely Broken

This game is great as long as it works; however, the game crashes consistently and there doesn’t seem to be any fix or any desire by the company to fix the bugs. Until the company takes the time to fix the problems, the game will continue to be subpar. I would not recommend anyone buying this product. It gets frustrating when you are doing relatively well only to watch the game crash or lock up.

In-App Purchases

Extremely good game, worth the money, except for the part where I can’t acess the in-app purchases page. Is there something wrong with my computer, or am I just plain stupid? I think I checked all of the menus, but I could be wrong. I have a 1/2 year old MacBook pro with plenty of storage and no other known problems. Thanks for the help.

Sorry I wasted my money.

I am disappointed in this game and am sorry that I bought it. There are a several problems. First, I need to be able to play a game on either my iMac or my Macbook Pro depending on my schedule. With Civilization IV, I could move the Save File from its folder in User/Library/Application Support/Civilization IV/Saves to my iCloud Drive and play it using either computer. I can’t even find the Save Files in Civilization V. Second, I have had to save quite often since it has been frequently crashing for no discernible reason. Now that I have finished a game I will have to delete the excess Save Files one at a time using their interface, unless I can figure out where they are now keeping the Save Files. Third, the play itself was only OK. I have enjoyed Civilization IV much more. The screen on Civilization V is so cluttered that it is hard to see the tiles in the backgrould without frequently zooming in and out. In conclusion, I probably won’t play the newer version again. I’m sorry I spent the money.

Crashes at launch

Crashes immediately at launch with error 173. Aspyr support was absolutely useless.

Don’t buy

The game has become unplayable. It crashes every time I play now.

I only wish they would add HD 3000 Compatabilty.

I get it. My laptop, 4 years old, does not support Civ V. Purchased in late 2011, the MacBook Pro 13” (base model) has Intel HD 3000 Integrated Graphics. While underpowered, yes, I still wish I could play this game.

Crap

Awful bug crashes what would otherwise be a great game. Aspyr doesnt care and doesnt move to fully resolve the issue in either way. Waste of money
